Enrique Carlsson was born in Madrid in 1996 and received his first violin lessons in Düsseldorf with Tsumio Tsubaki at the age of five. After moving back to Madrid, he continued his violin studies with Pablo Suárez at the age of nine and four years later to Olga Vilkomirskaya. In addition to violin lessons, Enrique Carlsson received lessons in piano (Ute Kandert), ear training and music theory (Leopoldo Errea).
Master classes with David Quiggle, Charles Bingham, Alfredo Garcia, Christof Polyzoides and Prof. Andreas Krecher enriched his training.
After graduating from the Deutsche Schule in Madrid, he passed the entrance examination for undergraduate violin studies at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf with Prof. Michael Gaiser at the age of 17. He completed this degree in the summer semester of 2018 with a special achievement in musicology. From 2017 to 2021, he also studied music theory with Prof. Hans Peter Reutter with a focus on arranging and orchestration. Further studies in jazz arranging and composition at Berklee College Of Music (Professional Certificate) and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (Arranging & Reharmonization for A Cappella). After successfully completing his master’s degree in musicology in the summer semester of 2020, he was accepted into the musicology doctoral program with Prof. Dr. Dr. Volker Kalisch.
He has been teaching music theory at the Robert Schumann Hochschule since the 2020/21 winter semester. This activity was preceded by a three-year position as a tutor (teaching assistant) for music theory.He is also holding a teaching position at the Folkwang Universität der Künste for the summer semester 2024. In addition to his academic teaching activities, Enrique Carlsson supports the work of youth and amateur ensembles. Since 2023, he has led the symphonic wind orchestra Brass in Concert e.V., plays as concertmaster with the orchestra of the NRW state government and arranges for this and other ensembles (including the Bundeswehr Training Music Corps, the Mönchengladbach City Music School and Schumann Junior). As a violinist, he also regularly performs on behalf of the „Internationale Stiftung zur Förderung von Kultur und Zivilisation“ in social institutions throughout NRW.
Enrique Carlsson was accepted as the youngest member of the Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid in 2012. This was followed by continuous orchestral activity: Memberships and participation in various orchestras such as the Landesjugendorchester NRW, the Bamberg Summer Opera Orchestra and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, as well as collaborations with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid (Spain), Jönköpings Sinfonietta (Sweden) and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker followed. He has also appeared several times as concertmaster of the Beethoven Orchester Hessen, the junge norddeutsche philharmonie and the symphony orchestra of the Robert Schumann Hochschule.
His concert experience also includes performances with various chamber music ensembles. The Círculo de la Amistad (Córdoba, Spain), the Leo Kultursaal (Bad Leonfelden, Austria), the Villa Concordia (Bamberg) and the Beethoven Haus Bonn are just some of the stages where he has performed in string quartets, piano trios, string sextets and ensembles. Enrique Carlsson has also worked with new music in projects with Gunda Gottschalk, Sebastian Gramms, the EOS Chamber Orchestra and the specially founded Takano Quartet.
